Michael Black QC
Michael Black QC is an international commercial lawyer practicing in off-shore litigation and international arbitration as an advocate, arbitrator and mediator. He was the principal draftsman of the Rules of the DIFC Courts and the first advocate to be authorised to practice. He appeared in the first trial and is retained in other matters before the Courts. For nearly 30 years he has specialized in asset-tracing, banking, insurance and professional negligence disputes and in particular in disputes arising out of large international infra-structure projects, acting not only for owners and contractors, but also for professionals, funders and insurers. He also has extensive experience of claims relating to project finance structures in the energy and oil and gas industries.
In additions to being a member of the bars of the DIFC Court and of England and Wales he is a member of the bar of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court and has been called ad hoc to the bars of the Isle of Man and the Grand Court and Court of Appeal of the Cayman Islands.
His practice has encompassed court proceedings in not only in England and the DIFC, but also the USA, Brazil, the Cayman Islands, the British Virgin Islands, and Singapore. He has also acted and advised in connection with matters in the following jurisdictions: The Isle of Man, The Channel Islands, Northern and Southern Ireland, Barbados, Bermuda, Nevis, France, Switzerland, Gibraltar, the Russian Federation, Armenia, Dubai (outside the DIFC), Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Nigeria, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Bangladesh, India, Hong Kong, the PRC, Taiwan, Malaysia, Korea, Brunei, Japan, the Philippines and the Solomon Islands.
He is a deputy judge of the Technology and Construction Court in London. In 1992 he trained at Harvard Law School as a mediator. He is a member of the London Court of International Arbitration and the International and Construction panels of the CPR International Institute for Conflict Prevention & Resolution, New York.

Philip Boulding QC
Philip Boulding QC is a barrister with over 25 years experience in the field of construction and engineering law, including major technology, infrastructure, technology and energy-related disputes. He became Queen’s Counsel in 1996.
Philip’s practice is strong internationally and has recently featured matters in Hong Kong, the Philippines, Signapore, Taiwan and Scandinavia. Current or recent cases in which Philip is advising and/or appearing as advocate include an international airport, a high-speed rail link, an off-shore oil and gas platform and a computerised ticketing system on an urban metro. Alexander Nissen QC
Alexander Nissen QC has over 20 years of experience in construction and engineering disputes. His practice covers a wide range of cases in professional negligence (for and against architects, surveyors and civil structural and geotechnical engineers) and contractors and sub-contractors claims.
Alexander has a considerable reputation as an advocate in the English courts, including the Court of Appeal, and also has a growing international practice; including a recent US$100,000 million ICC arbitration on a power station in the Far East.
As a Chartered Arbitrator, Alexander receives appointments or international and domestic disputes: a recent example was an ICC arbitration of a dispute between international parties on a road building contract in East Africa.

William Frain-Bell
William Frain-Bell specialises in international commercial dispute avoidance and resolution. Having qualified as a solicitor, he was called to the Bar firstly in Scotland (1999) and then in England & Wales (2000) and has extensive advocacy experience in courts and tribunals at every level in the UK. He is able to receive instructions from clients directly under the Bar Council’s Public Direct Access scheme and has full rights of audience in the international commercial court in Dubai, where he can also issue claims. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and has been involved in a number of high level arbitrations and adjudications. These include an adjudication regarding one of Europe’s largest off shore wind turbine developments and an arbitration in Dubai concerning a dispute over the investment of a US$250m VC fund, involving parties from the UAE, Pakistan and the Cayman Islands.
William has a post graduate diploma in international commercial arbitration from the School of International Arbitration in London and has lectured extensively in contract law and dispute resolution to oil and gas executives from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Sudan.
William is regularly called upon to provide immediate advice to operational directors in the field to assist with dispute avoidance and management. He recently acted in a mediation involving the ownership of a hotel and leisure complex in Indonesia which brought to an end a major contractual dispute between the joint owners.
He has acted in a dispute in the Indian sub-continent involving a production sharing contract (PSC) between an Oil Major and a Government oil company. The dispute concerned cost recovery mechanisms within the PSC and he was retained as advocate for the ICSID arbitration in Washington D.C. William has also been involved in advising on the provision of arbitration services in Tajikistan, a US$500m arbitration in Switzerland involving the return of expropriated central bank funds to an African sovereign state, an adjudication involving the design of offshore drilling equipment by a German manufacturer and a dispute in Bermuda involving allegations of the illegal production of films and music for the European market. He has also represented a senior executive from a global plc in an action for non-payment of US$10m in bonus payments and advised the face of a leading international beauty care brand in a breach of her conditions of engagement.
Described as "reliable" by Chambers and Partners, William is an expert in the provision of a versatile, discrete, effective and rapid response to problems and is accustomed to travelling at short notice to assist parties around the world.

Krista Lee
Krista Lee is a dual qualified barrister who specialises in engineering and construction disputes. An Oxford law graduate who was called to the Bar in 1996, she has since gained an honours degree in engineering.
An experienced advocate in the High Court, especially in the specialist Technology and Construction Court, Krista advises on the whole construction process, from negotiation and drafting of contractors, through appointment and management of contractors and consultants on site, to claims and their resolution by adjudication, mediation, arbitration and litigation.
Krista also undertakes more general commercial work, including company law, partnership disputes and insolvency litigation.

Nerys Jefford
Nerys Jefford was called to The Bar in 1986 and specialises in construction and engineering disputes, especially those arising from major infrastructure projects in the power and energy industries.
